About 10 years ago I was researching filters for my turtle tank because it was too difficult to do water changes with the bigger tank I bought for her (30 gal). All the reviews I read said that the Fluval x04 series filters were the best out there so I put down the money for a 104 model and never looked back. I had the Fluval 104 filter for about 10 years before the motor finally gave up last week, waaaay beyond the 3yr warranty that came with it.

To be fair, the 104 was the first canister filter I had ever purchased but I was so happy with it that when it finally died, I immediately replaced it with this newer 105 model. It’s super quiet, and easy to setup with the detailed instructions. The best part is how easy it is to clean, just close the aquastop system and take the filter with you to clean where it’s convenient. I know this sounds like a commercial but I really love this filter; this is the first review I’ve ever written just because I’m that happy with it. Hopefully this one will last another 10 years at which point I’ll buy another one. FYI: The tank is a 30 gal filled 2/3 with water and houses my 6″ painted turtle and the occasional fish and I only clean the filter about twice a year as needed.
